Uniting Innovation: The New Continental AG Headquarters in Hanover

Located on the eastern outskirts of Hanover, the new headquarters of Continental AG, designed by HENN, stands as a testament to innovation and corporate evolution. This dynamic complex consolidates various functions previously dispersed across the city into a single, cohesive location. Reflecting Continental’s transition from a tire manufacturer to a leading technology group in the German automotive industry, this project embodies progress and vision.

Design Concept

Situated on two plots of land separated by an eight-lane road, the campus-like development features interconnected free-standing buildings, including office and administrative structures, hotels, and industrial facilities. The core design concept is inspired by motor racing circuits, with a layout that symbolizes connectivity and fluidity. A bridge spanning over 70 meters links buildings on both sides of the road, facilitating seamless movement and integration.

The Loop: Center of Communication

At the heart of the headquarters lies the Loop, a dynamic spatial continuum that runs through all buildings and across the bridge on the second floor. Serving as the communication hub, the Loop fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and informal interactions among employees. It offers various spaces for focused work, as well as areas for social engagement, facilitating meaningful encounters and connections.

Interior Design and Integration

Designed by Ippolito Fleitz Group, the interiors of the work environments and staff amenities reflect the overarching design concept. The Loop integrates office and meeting rooms, a cafeteria, and a health center, creating a horizontal network of functional spaces. Two ‘touchdowns’ at the northern and southern ends provide direct access to the first-floor level, where atria welcome employees and visitors, connecting to the company canteen and a TV recording studio.

Architectural Features

Externally, the smooth glass façade accented by dark grey profiles showcases the Loop with color-printed glass panels, visually unifying the buildings into a coherent whole. Energy-efficient inverted façades eliminate the need for external solar shading, enhancing sustainability and architectural integrity. The complex is surrounded by a landscaped area accessible to the public, integrating seamlessly with the natural surroundings and providing outdoor workspaces and recreational areas.

Conclusion

The new Continental AG headquarters in Hanover embodies the essence of communication and collaboration, symbolizing the company’s commitment to shaping the future of mobility. By consolidating various functions within a cohesive and innovative design, this project not only represents architectural excellence but also fosters a culture of connectivity and progress within the organization.
