Integrating with Nature Houses by a Park in Bangalore
Architectural Vision
In the bustling city of Bangalore, India, Studio Motley embarked on a project to construct four houses, each with its own unique character. Nestled opposite a sprawling neighborhood park, these houses were envisioned not only as dwellings but as a tribute to the city’s rich heritage and the tranquility it once embodied amidst rapid urbanization.
Embracing the Landscape
Drawing inspiration from its verdant surroundings, the design of the houses prioritized a seamless integration with nature. Expansive terraces were incorporated into each unit, serving as tranquil retreats that offered panoramic views of the park. On the second floor, a striking twenty-foot cantilevered roof extended over these terraces, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces and inviting residents to immerse themselves in the beauty of their surroundings.
Paying Homage to Tradition
In homage to Bangalore’s architectural legacy, the exterior of the houses was adorned with Sadarahalli stone, a locally sourced granite known for its rustic texture. This choice of material not only honored the city’s historic built environment but also ensured durability and sustainability. Additionally, an operable screen crafted from laminated bamboo was installed on the facade, providing privacy for the bedrooms while allowing for natural ventilation and daylighting.
A Sanctuary Amidst Urban Chaos
The completion of the Houses by a Park project marked not only the addition of four new residences but also the creation of an oasis amidst the urban chaos. By seamlessly blending contemporary design elements with traditional craftsmanship and a deep reverence for nature, Studio Motley succeeded in crafting homes that not only catered to the needs of modern living but also served as reminders of Bangalore’s storied past.
Conclusion
In a rapidly evolving cityscape where green spaces are increasingly rare, the Houses by a Park stand as a beacon of hope—a testament to the enduring power of architecture to harmonize with its surroundings and enrich the lives of its inhabitants. As Bangalore continues to grow and evolve, these houses serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving the natural heritage that defines the soul of the city.
