Redefining Wellness: The Beauty Edit Clinic in Calgary, Canada
In 2022, BOLD Workshop Architecture and Sturgess Architecture collaborated to design the Beauty Edit Clinic in Calgary, Canada. Led by the vision to create a warm and inviting space, the architects aimed to shift away from the typical clinical atmosphere associated with medical aesthetics offices, opting instead for an ambiance reminiscent of a spa.
Design Philosophy
The flagship location of Beauty Edit embraces a softened language, offering a spa-like experience rather than the traditional clinical setting. The design prioritizes simplicity and clarity, aligning with the client’s vision of providing straightforward treatment and product offerings. A deliberate interplay between public and private spaces, coupled with a restrained material palette, fosters an immersive spatial experience that reflects the brand ethos.
Spatial Arrangement
Intimate treatment rooms and private functions are housed as standalone pods within the space, allowing guests to freely navigate and engage with the open areas. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed into a small reception area and retail space before being directed to a waiting lounge. Nestled amidst treatment pods, the lounge serves as the heart of the guest experience, providing a secluded area for relaxation and engagement prior to treatments.
Integration of Service Elements
To optimize space utilization and maintain a clean aesthetic, all storage and service elements such as closets and millwork are seamlessly integrated into wall voids. A simple repeating pattern of three tile finishes adds texture to the walls, creating visual interest while utilizing cost-effective materials. Precise coordination between trades during the construction phase ensures meticulous execution without the need for extensive tile cuts.
Future Adaptability
The design concept prioritizes flexibility, enabling future Beauty Edit locations to adopt a similar language with varying material palettes. The use of simple curved surfaces allows for diverse finishes, accommodating different demographics and aesthetic preferences while maintaining a cohesive visual identity.
In conclusion, the Beauty Edit Clinic in Calgary sets a new standard for wellness interiors by reimagining the traditional medical aesthetics office. Through thoughtful design choices and a focus on creating a welcoming environment, the clinic offers clients a holistic experience that transcends the typical clinical setting.
