Dongguan Central Area Slow-Traffic System eLandscript Studio

Project Background

In response to the burgeoning manufacturing industry and the influx of talent in Dongguan, China, the need for improved transportation infrastructure has become paramount. The development of subways and intercity railways prompted the creation of the Dongguan Slow-Traffic System, spanning 3 km in the city’s central zone.

Vision

Under the vision of “Social Loop & Green Necklace,” eLandscript Studio analyzed the area’s requirements, identifying disconnected points, parcels with potential for increased value, and disjointed green corridors. The proposed plan aims to revitalize the urban landscape, fostering a more vibrant Dongguan.

Social Loop

The 1.5-kilometer Social Loop connects key areas within Dongguan, including Central Park, Civic Center Phase I and III, Minying IFC, and various commercial and residential blocks. Bridge No. 2, spanning 103.5 meters, employs a continuous steel beam structure with a 10-meter arch and 54 cables. Flower boxes and viewing platforms enhance the bridge’s functionality, providing spaces for people to gather and enjoy the surroundings. Bridge No. 1 integrates the elevated structure with park amenities, creating a dynamic shared public space.

Green Necklace

The 1.5-kilometer Green Necklace links Central Park with natural landmarks such as Huangqi Mountain Hiking trails. Designed to blend seamlessly with the environment, this tree canopy bridge enhances connectivity between the city core and surrounding nature areas. Entrances in the Xigualing area prioritize accessibility, featuring tree-canopy stages, pergola trellises, and platforms connected to subway lifts. The project aims to provide convenience and functional spaces for local residents, with future developments planned for the Qifeng Park section in conjunction with the Huangqi Plaza.
